| Disney rebels urge fresh start |
Filed under Business, Corporate Business on Sunday, March 13, 2005 by Author: Default Profile.
REBEL shareholders of The Walt Disney Company have vowed to continue their fight against the media group’s top management, accusing its board of “conning” investors over the appointment of Bob Iger as chief executive-elect. Roy E. Disney, nephew of Walt Disney, the company’s founder, and Stanley Gold, his business partner, yesterday urged shareholders to “seriously consider replacing this board and starting anew” after the company said that Mr Iger would take over from Michael Eisner in September. The two investors, who together hold about $750 million (£390 million) worth of Disney shares, accused the board of handing the CEO job to Mr Iger “by default” having “failed to find a single external candidate interested in the job”.
