Are Spammers picking up e-mail addresses off your website?
If you get as much Spam as we used to at Expinion, you may want to try something to help prevent automated internet marketers from finding your email address.
How does it work?
To simplify, spammers have automated tools to search sites for email addresses (which are usually recognized by the occurrences of the character "@", together with a '.' and at least 2 characters after the '.').
These spiders may not find decimal encoded email addresses, because the character @ is not found.
Please note that Expinion isn't using a database for this form, so we can't collect email addresses. (We don't send out newsletters or spam anyway!) Nor do we guarantee that spammers won't find a way around the encoding to find the email address anyway. (But everything helps!)
Encode Your Email Address
- Enter your normal email address (or any other text you wish to encode) in the box below.
- Copy and paste the Encoded Email Address text into your Hyperlink tool (with mailto: selected), and test your link.
- Note: If you're entering the code directly into the source code, don't forget to add the rest of the hyperlink code. Like this:
<a href="mailto:code_here">Email me.</a>
